Our Mission
The Investment Advisory Committee (IAC) is an entirely student-run organization that operates as an arm of Associated Students – the UC Santa Barbara student government. Our mission is to equip our members with valuable skills for careers across the finance industry while maintaining diligent stewardship of A.S. Funds. Working with an actively managed portfolio, participants gain experience with fundamental analysis and portfolio management through hands-on investment research, discussion, and decision making.
Involvement
In addition to managing our portfolio, we are committed to offering a forum for students to enrich their understanding of finance and investing. Every Wednesday at 8pm in North Hall 1110 we hold meetings in which one of our nine groups pitches an investment to the entire committee. Each group is led by a portfolio manager, who supports direct training and mentorship of team members (analysts). Our meetings are open for any UCSB student to watch and ask questions. We encourage interested students to attend, both to learn more about our investment process and to serve as an entry point for prospective members.
Portfolio
We have managed A.S. funds for over a decade, with a current portfolio of over $275,000. We diversify our investments across industries, asset classes, and geographies, hedging against localized risk and seeking opportunities which present asymmetric risk-reward tradeoffs. See our current holdings here. Note: document reflects only unrealized return of current holdings from capital gains, not past holdings return or dividend and interest income.
